TOEFL Exam Syllabus Pattern

Reading, writing, speaking, and listening are all part of the TOEFL exam syllabus. Multiple choice questions are included in the TOEFL Reading and Listening sessions, with a total of 58-79 marks available in these two sections. The TOEFL writing section also includes descriptive exercises. Furthermore, candidates must provide brief to lengthy responses to the questions posed during the speaking session. Four modules: reading, listening, writing, and speaking cover the TOEFL test format for iBT online test. The TOEFL structure and syllabus for four of them is as follows. 

TOEFL Reading Section


  • Reading for the TOEFL Reading entails reading passages and responding to the questions posed.
  • There will be 3-5 passages to read, and each passage will have 12-14 questions to answer.
  • There will be a total of 50 questions to be answered during the course of 60-100 minutes.
  • The correctness of each answer in each passage will determine the score.

TOEFL Listening Section


  • Listening on the TOEFL There are two types of conversations that will be heard while listening.
  • One will be a brief conversation, while the other will be lengthy. After each short conversation, there will be one question that will be a multiple-choice question with options to choose from.
  • There will be numerous questions to be answered during a lengthy conversation.
  • There will be two sections in the listening, which are as follows: 4-5 lectures that will be 3-5 minutes long, 500-800 words long, with 6 questions each, for a total of 30 questions. 2- 3 conversations that will last more than 3 minutes, with 12-25 exchanges and 5 questions each.
  • The total no of questions will be more than 40 and the time duration will be 60-90 minutes.

TOEFL Speaking Section


  • Speaking on the TOEFL If you want to do well in speaking, you should try to meet all of the exam's requirements.
  • It is best to try to avoid making mistakes.
  • The following are the divisions in speaking: There will be two independent tasks in the first section.
  • This task's preparation time will be 15 seconds, and the response time will be 45 seconds.
  • There will be two integrated tasks in the second section. The assignment will be as follows: read-listen-speak.
  • This section's preparation time will be 30 seconds, and the response time will be 60 seconds.
  • There will be two integrated tasks in the final section.
  • The assignment will be to listen speak.
  • This task's preparation time will be 20 seconds, and the response time will be 20 seconds.
  • The total no of questions will be 6 for speaking and the total duration will be 20 minutes.

TOEFL Writing Section


  • TOEFL Composition The topic of the essay should be effectively addressed.
  • The response should be well-organized and well-developed, with relevant explanations and detailed supporting documentation.
  • It should also demonstrate a unity of thought, steady progress, and collective thoughts.
  • Make sure your grammar is correct, but don't overdo it with your sentence structure. Increase your score by varying your sentence formation.
